The Graston Technique

The Graston Technique is an instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization technique that is used to detect and release scar tissue, adhesions and facial restrictions in the body.

The Graston Technique was researched in the early 1990's at Ball Memorial Hospital and Ball State University, in Muncie, Indiana. In 1994, the technique was used for treatment of chronic and acute injuries at the TherapyCare Resources outpatient clinic where research, data and patients were treated with a variety of diagnosis, and with excellent results.

Today it is used by thousands of Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Chiropractors, and Athletic Trainers. It has changed they way they provide therapy; improved diagnostic treatment, detects major and minor fibrotic changes, reduces manual stress on the therapist hands and joints, and increases patient satisfaction by achieving notably better outcomes.

Benefits of the Technique

For the Patient

  • Decreases overall time of treatment
  • Fosters faster rehabilitation/recovery
  • Reduces need for anti-inflammatory medication
  • Resolves chronic conditions thought to be permanent

The Graston Technique is just one part of an overall therapy program. A complete evaluation is performed and treatment plan established. The instruments are designed to provide an adjunct to a clinician's hand.
